  • Texas’ bioscience industry is large and rapidly growing, employing 129,245 in 2023 across 9,212 establishments with employment growth of 21.6% since 2019.
  • Bioscience-related academic R&D expenditures in Texas totaled $4.6 billion in 2022.  Ranking 3rd in the county.
  • NIH funding to Texas institutions reached $1.8 billion in 2023, growing 34% since 2019.
  • Texas bioscience companies raised $8.7 billion in venture capital investment from 2019 through 2023. Ranking 5th in the country.
  • State inventors are affiliated with nearly 8,000 bioscience-related patents over the same 5-year period. Ranking 9th in the country.

  • Bioscience-related distribution has seen 12% growth in employers since 2019 and now there are 168 establishments, 4,748 employees, average annual wage of $119,431.
  • Medical devices and equipment subsector has seen 41.3% growth in employers since 2019 and now there are 801 establishments, 15,040 jobs with average annual wage $94,416.
  • Research, testing, and medical laboratories have seen 96.8% growth in employers since 2019 and now have 3,913 establishments, 37,702 jobs with average annual wage $113,689.
  • Bioscience related distribution has seen 6.8% growth in employers since 2019 and now has 3,913 establishments, 57,770 jobs with average annual wage $134,377.
  • Pharmaceuticals subsector has seen 56.2% growth in employers since 2019 and now there are 415 establishments, 13,985 jobs with average annual wage $123,068
