Texas Applauds Casey’s Decision to Promote Investment in Life Sciences, Create Jobs


(December 9, 2010) AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Healthcare and Bioscience Institute (THBI) today enthusiastically endorsed U.S. Senator Bob Casey’s (D-PA) plans to introduce legislation that will promote critical life science research and create much needed jobs.

Under Casey’s proposed legislation, which is similar to H.R. 6165 co-sponsored by U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands), targeted incentives could be invested in a number of areas essential to the continued growth and success of the nation’s life science industry. Texas Biotech Firms Receive More Than $35 Million in Federal Grants and Credits


(November 4, 2010) - One-hundred seventeen Texas biotechnology companies were awarded more than $35 million in federal tax credits and grants yesterday as part of the Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project Tax Credit Program administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the National Institutes of Health.

“The Therapeutic Discovery Credit has provided Texas Life Science companies the ability to continue to invest resources into their ongoing research and development activities,” said Tom Kowalski, President of the Texas Healthcare and Bioscience Institute (THBI). “This comes in the form of equipment and personnel. This tax credit provides a much needed shot in the arm for Texas Life Science Companies to help them weather the tight credit markets.”  Click here to see the entire press release.
